back to the heart of it

Below is an image of my baby sister. She was married on Saturday and I was her bridesmaid, not the photographer (although of course I could not resist having my camera with me).  The morning of the wedding was a little rushed but I managed to take this one photo before we headed to the church.  It was a quiet moment, just my sister and I, before she walked out to show her bridesmaids her dress for the first time.

The day was filled with laughter, love, happiness and tears. Tears of joy, overwhelming thankfulness and love. Marriage is when not only two people become one, but two families converge. My sister changed her name, and has now started a new family unit with her husband. I would have been to well over 100 weddings but Saturday reminded me what it's all about...love.  It's so easy to get caught up in the lastest wedding trends, having the perfect dress and the most in-vogue table settings, but once the wedding is over you have a marriage ahead of you.

I'm so thankful to be in this industry and I really do feel honored to witness the intimate moments of a wedding day. From the Father giving his baby girl away, to the first time the groom sees his beautiful bride, and the watery eyes during the vows and laughter during the speeches.  Don't get me wrong, I love details! I always try to capture the decorations and little touches at a wedding. But after Saturday I realised that in years to come the photos that will be most precious to our family are the ones of the 'moments' throughout the day, images that bring the memories flooding back and move you. These types of images won't make the cover of a bridal magazine and may not be featured on a wedding blog, but I think these are the most precious of them all.  Sometimes we need to take a deep breath and focus on the reason we started planning a wedding in the first place....because two people decided they couldn't live without the other.
